IN GOD WE TRUST—3

THE GOOD NEWS NOONE IS REPORTING

Context: When the evil king of Assyria attacks Jerusalem

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.

2So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. 3Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! 4A river brings joy to the city of our God, the sacred home of the Most High. 5God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed. From the very break of day, God will protect it. 6The nations are in chaos, and their kingdoms crumble! God’s voice thunders, and the earth melts!

7The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress. 8Come, see the glorious works of the Lord: See how he brings destruction upon the world. 9He causes wars to end throughout the earth. He breaks the bow and snaps the spear; he burns the shields with fire.

10“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”

(Psalm 46:1-10 NLT)

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.

(Psalm 46:1 NLT)

nimsa meod

           nimsa—to be discovered, encountered, experienced.

           meod—exceedingly abundant, exceedingly much, muchness.

In times of trouble God overflows with His exceedingly abundant protection, provision, and strength.

The nations are in chaos, and their kingdoms crumble! God’s voice thunders, and the earth melts! 7The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.

(Psalm 46:6-7 NLT)

Our God is BIG enough to oversee the whole world and LOVING enough to care about YOU!

Come, see the glorious works of the Lord

(Psalm 46:8 NLT)

“Be still and know that I am God …”

(Psalm 46:10 NLT)

raphah—to be quiet, to relax, to give yourself slack.

“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”

(Psalm 46:10 NLT)

God help me to obey even when I don’t understand

God help me to surrender what I cannot control

God lead me to that which I need to be resolved to

Be still and know that He is God

TALK IT OVER

  • When was the last time you experienced God as a refuge and hiding place? What was that experience like?

  • This is the good news no one’s reporting: God is our peace, comforter, provider, righteousness, strength, hope and light. Which of those qualities means the most to you right now? Why?

  • How can you slow down and quiet your soul so you can better connect with God this week?
